help me be thankful for today
for the cool air
and the rain
and a home filled with quiet
rest
the thing that I crave
yet resist all the same
I’ll never know true rest if I’m too afraid to try it
Isn’t that the condition of the human soul?
longing for more
for different
for what feels just out of reach
the grass is always greener
when you allow the world to preach
more time is the cure for my unsettled heart
time alone
time at home
time to fill with things that sit on the shelf
collecting dust
I wish I had more time
to read
to write
to reach out to an old friend and say hi
to take a moment
to release the stuff buried inside
to let go of my desire to run away and hide
hide the facts as they unfold in front of me
I think I’m blinded by my own imagery
forgetting all the choices that lay at my feet
begging me please
don’t forget about me
don’t neglect me
it is a deep knowing
a deep need
to run away and unleash years of pent up energy
to start again and make a different choice
I’m not doubting your plan God
I’m just curious
about the choice in this adventure
that I decided not to make
would I still end up in this place
or would scarcity be my new hidden face?
It’s probably unwise to dream so much
to envision something different
from the path of my life
blessing after blessing
sprinkled on both sides
to someone else
I’m the lucky one
but I don’t want to compare blessings
or get trapped in the race
this is why I’m here in the first place
I’m done running
and my dreams have a new direction
narrow in size but wide in fulfillment
promises on promises
life and life to the fullest
a daily sacrifice
a daily call
a simple instruction
love the lord with all your heart
lean not on your own understanding
right where I have you
is right where you’re meant to be standing
come to me all who are weary
and heavy laden
seek first the kingdom of heaven
and all else will be added
why do you fear, why are you discouraged?
my command you should know
for the Lord your God is with you
